"Getting airplay” is a major big deal with so many upcoming artistes in Nigeria. So many artistes figure all they have to do is send off their promo CDs to an OAP or a promoter and they get automatic airplay or promotion. They then become shocked when their songs are rejected. Here are some of the reasons why.
· NO CONTACT INFORMATION. Your CD should always be accompanied by your contact info. Put your name, address, phone number, email, website twitter handle, MySpace/Facebook address, on all submissions.
· POORLY RECORDED MATERIAL. I receive promo songs everyday and you won’t believe the number of wack songs I get to listen to! If you don’t have good material, your CD ends up in the trash!
· SENDING UNSOLICITED RECORDINGS. Sending your songs when nobody asked you to, means your song will not get attention. So do the right thing first before sending your song to a promoter without his/her approval.
· LACK OF ORIGINALITY: if your material is not original or you don’t sound genuine, you will be dismissed. Because no one wants a copycat
· BAD PRODUCTION: if the song is good but the producer is not, the end product will still be bad. So if you know you have a good song, make sure you do all you can to work with a good producer.
